Issue 2 (2014) of the Igbo Studies Review charts new scholarly territory in our ongoing project to understand the dynamic evolution of Igbo culture. This year’s volume opens with an in‑depth analysis of gender and ritual in pre‑colonial Arochukwu, followed by a groundbreaking linguistic study tracing the diffusion of the “–gba” imperative across West African pidgins. We feature a comparative examination of Igbo proverbs in contemporary political discourse, as well as an archaeological report on recent excavations at the Arochukwu oracle site. Rounding out the issue are two illuminating essays: one on the global circulation of Igbo textile motifs, and another on the emergence of youth‑led publishing collectives in Lagos and Enugu. Together, these contributions weave a portrait of a community deeply rooted in tradition yet boldly embracing innovation.
