The Igbo Studies Association invites scholars, researchers, advanced graduate students, and practitioners working in Igbo Studies and related fields to submit quality papers for consideration in the next volume of Igbo Studies Review, the flagship journal of the Association.

As ISA continues to strengthen its publishing program and expand the visibility of Igbo scholarship, we encourage contributors to submit original, well-researched, and carefully written articles that advance knowledge of Igbo history, culture, language, literature, philosophy, religion, politics, gender, society, diaspora, development, technology, and contemporary life.

This call for papers comes at an important moment in ISA’s digital renewal. With the release of the first electronic volumes of Igbo Studies Review and the development of a more robust online publishing system, ISA is working to make scholarly work more accessible, searchable, visible, and widely circulated. Articles published online can now reach broader audiences, attract more views and downloads, and help increase the visibility of ISA scholars and their contributions.

We are especially interested in submissions that demonstrate strong scholarship, clear argumentation, careful documentation, and meaningful engagement with Igbo Studies as a field. Submissions may be theoretical, historical, literary, linguistic, ethnographic, philosophical, interdisciplinary, comparative, or policy-oriented. We also welcome work that connects Igbo Studies to broader debates in African Studies, diaspora studies, digital humanities, gender studies, postcolonial studies, cultural studies, education, development, and global Black studies.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

Igbo history, culture, and society
Igbo language, literature, translation, and terminology
Igbo philosophy, ethics, proverbs, and indigenous knowledge systems
Gender, family, women’s writing, and social change
Religion, spirituality, cosmology, and ritual life
The Nigeria-Biafra War, memory, trauma, and reconstruction
Diaspora, migration, identity, and transnational networks
Politics, leadership, governance, and community organization
Economics, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and development
Digital media, technology, AI, archives, and Igbo knowledge preservation
Igbo arts, music, film, performance, and cultural production
Book reviews and critical review essays related to Igbo Studies

Authors are encouraged to submit polished manuscripts that are ready for peer review. Papers should present a clear thesis, engage relevant scholarship, follow appropriate academic citation standards, and contribute meaningfully to ongoing conversations in Igbo Studies.

ISA has now built an online submission system to make the process easier and more organized. Authors can submit their papers directly through the ISA website:

https://igbostudies.org/journal/submit/

Through this submission system, authors can upload manuscripts, provide relevant metadata, and submit their work for editorial consideration. This is part of ISA’s broader commitment to building a sustainable digital publishing infrastructure for the Association and for the field of Igbo Studies.

The online submission platform will help streamline editorial review, improve record keeping, support digital publishing, and strengthen the long-term accessibility of published work. It also reflects ISA’s commitment to making Igbo Studies Review a more visible and professionally managed journal for scholars across the world.

We encourage members, conference presenters, emerging scholars, senior scholars, and researchers in Nigeria, Africa, North America, Europe, and the wider diaspora to consider submitting their best work. The future of Igbo Studies depends on rigorous scholarship, active publication, and the willingness of scholars to document, interpret, preserve, and advance Igbo knowledge.

ISA looks forward to receiving strong submissions for the next volume of Igbo Studies Review.

Submit your paper today and contribute to the growth of Igbo Studies scholarship.
