UPCOMING ISA LECTURE SERIES ON MARCH 26 -- PRESENTATION BY Sister Caroline N. Mbonu, PhD

Theme: Violence against Women in Igbo Society
Violence against women pervades and manifests in various forms and degrees in different cultures of the world. In Igboland, certain cultural norms against women sustain this vexing question.

This lecture examines the often innocuous cultural texts that reinforce violence in subtle ways. Using cultural hermeneutics as well as hermeneutics of suspicion as tools, the presentation claims that the deconstruction of these texts can mitigate, if not eradicate, violence against women in Igboland.
